Meet the Hosts

carolcolor.jpgCarol Larson (Mornings 7 – 11, Sundays 9 – 12 am) was raised in Chicago by an Italian father who sang opera around the house and an Irish mother who sang duets with her father. Carol has played piano since the age of 8. She played baritone sax in an all-girl jug band in high school, learning sax because they couldn’t find anyone else to do it.

alancolor.jpgFor almost two decades Louisvillians have heard the gentle baritone voice of Alan Brandt present classical music on the FM airwaves. Alan continues this recent tradition five days a week, 11 – 3 pm, and Saturday mornings. Alan grew up on a northern Illinois farm, the youngest of the family’s five children. His interest in radio was sparked by observing his brother, Jim, who is also a FM host.

danielcolor.jpgDaniel Gilliam (Evenings 3 – 7 pm, Station Manager) is a composer and singer from Louisville, Kentucky.  He holds degrees in Music Composition and Theory from Samford University and the University of Kansas.  Daniel has received commissions from the Louisville Youth Choir, Turin Philharmonic (Italy), The Phoenix Concerts (New York), and is currently composer-in-residence at Christ Church Cathedral in Louisville.

scottdowd.JPGScott Dowd (Sundays 12 – 4 pm) was the afternoon host of classical music on the old 91.9 FM WFPK in the 1990s. Scott also hosted the very popular New Age music program “d’Inner Space” which aired 6pm – 8pm every weeknight on WFPK. Scott left public radio to work at other non-profit organizations in the mid ’90s. He still works in the Louisville arts world but has returned to his roots as host of Sunday afternoon programming on Classical 90.5.

danielcolor.jpgTara Anderson grew up in Lexington and Louisville, and has degrees in music and journalism from UK (but don’t hold that against her). She lived in New York City from 2000 to 2009, where she served as Assistant Program Director at WFUV, Fordham University’s public radio station. She is a singer, pianist, freelance writer, and substitute host at sister station at WFPL. She is delighted to be back in her hometown to share and discover classical music on WUOL.

The former Diva Of Drive-time on WUOL-FM, Fadel Friedlander-Fulkerson brings a wealth of musical knowledge and a lifetime of musical experience to her audience. She also brings an unbridled enthusiasm for the world’s great classical repertoire, especially in the area of opera. You can hear Fadel and The Art of Great Singing on Sundays at 8pm!
